Today I'll be reviewing the
Kodak 6850 and
Kodak 9810 - two of the most popular dye sublimation printers made by Kodak. Both providing the quality and speed expected from a Kodak, they excel in serving both mobile event photographers and studios with beautiful dye-sub prints. I have suggested these printers to several customers based on their individual needs, and judging by their responses, I'm sure that either would be a welcome addition to any photographer's arsenal.
The Kodak Professional 6850 Digital Photo Printer meets event photographers' on-demand printing needs by providing customers with immediate results on the 4x6, 5x7, and 6x8 formats. Additionally, independent portrait studios will benefit from this low-cost way to produce immediate, small format, glossy photos for proofing or print delivery.
With improved printing speeds seen at 15 seconds for 6x8-inch prints and eight seconds for 4x6-inch prints, the Kodak Photo Printer 6850 delivers as many as 375 6x8-inch prints or 750 4x6-inch prints without operator intervention - all to ease workflow and improve efficiency. The 6850 is simple to operate and maintain, and can be quickly and easily set up on-site to create prints in seconds and send satisfied clients off with their memories on print in an instant.
The
Kodak Professional 9810 combines professional-grade, high-resolution prints and ease of mobility and use. It weighs about 40 pounds and prints primarily on roll paper. It is known for its borderless printing capabilities, and it has a built-in photo cutter. On my tests, it produced prints in as little as 45 seconds, and what I personally liked about the 9810 is the durability and quality of the prints. It produces consistent results using dry imaging technology so there are no worries of clogged heads or spilled ink, and thanks to the protective laminate overcoat, your pictures are water resistant and very durable.
If you are using an inkjet printer for events or lab work, I strongly recommend switching to dye-sub. You will be totally satisfied by the quality and the cost per print. In my opinion, once you've experienced the appearance, feel, finish, durability, and quality you get from a dye-sub printer - you'll never be satisfied with anything less.
I asked a few of my clients who had these printers if they could share some input, and here's what I've gotten so far. John, who has a booth in a Miami shopping mall said, "I bought a Kodak 9810 in 2006 and so far I haven't had any issues with it. It prints super fast and all of my customers are extremely satisfied with the quality of the prints." Chris, who moves between several nightclubs, said: "
My 6850 is amazing; the print quality is far beyond any of the printers I tested. The cost of the prints may be a little pricey, but the most important aspects for me are the results I get from it - and the smile of my clients when they look at their pictures."
